An Artful New Studio Shop for a Traditional Northern New Mexico Home.
In the serene mountain village of Rio en Medio, Tyaga & Company created a beautifully crafted outbuilding that complements the traditional Northern New Mexico architecture of the main residence while adding dynamic new functionality. Designed as a multi-purpose structure, this thoughtfully executed addition blends utility with artistic expression.
Anchored by a wide, welcoming veranda, the building includes a spacious garage and workshop, complete with a vehicle lift—ideal for automotive projects or serious mechanical work. Above is a dedicated music room, acoustically designed to host intimate public piano recitals, offering both performance space and inspiration. A separate recreation room adds a playful touch, outfitted for table tennis and casual gatherings.
An exterior metal staircase with a custom, sculptural banister leads to a rooftop sitting area, perfect for enjoying sunsets over the Tesuque hills. The building's exterior showcases artful metal beams and finely crafted stone berms that blend beautifully into the natural landscape, while also serving as elegant retaining elements.
This distinctive structure reflects Tyaga & Company's signature blend of high functionality, fine craftsmanship, and creative design—enhancing not just the property, but the everyday experience of those who dwell there.
